Paris Incident
Omar's Blues
(David Olney/Bug Music-David Olney Songs)

Jean Paul Levesque wipes the blood of his knife
With his silk handkerchief 'til it shines bright and clean
Stepping over the body and out of the alley
The chameleon becomes just a part of the scene
"How I Love Paris!" he says to himself
From his favoritespot at a streetside cafe
Leisurely sipping a brandy and coffee
Pondering the form of a girl 'cross the way
Can you imagine the blade of a knife
Just at the moment it touches your neck?
"What's mine is yours," says the man who has nothing
"What's yours is mine," says John Paul Levesque

Inspector Leguarde sits in his office
Reviewing the facts of this new murder case
The body was found in some darkened alley
The murderer vanished leaving no trace
You develop a taste and a feel for these things
Each crime leaves a scent for the well-refined nose
Inspector Leguarde cannot say why exactly
But somewhere inside him he is sure that he knows
But knowing and proving are two different matters
Still, it won't hurt to go out and check
The motive, the means and the manner of murder
Everything points to John Paul Levesque

Inspector Legarde makes his way to the cafe
He knows is the favorite haunt of John Paul
He searches the faces, sees nothing but strangers
He is turning to leave when he hears a voice call
"Inspector! What pleasure it brings me to see you!
Honor my table and drink of my wine."
"Monsieur Levesque, you overwhelm me with all of your kindness
A kindness too rare in these murderous times."
"All too true, mon ami, all too true. I could cry!
From cradle to grave this life is so hard!"
Jean Paul Levesque wipes a tear from his eye
And raises his glass to Inspector Legarde
